The Chaos Computer Club e. V. (CCC) is Europe's largest association of hackers. For more than forty years we are providing information about technical and societal issues, such as surveillance, privacy, freedom of information, hacktivism, data security, and hacking. As the most influential hacker collective in Europe we organize campaigns, events, lobbying and publications as well as anonymizing services and communication infrastructure. There are many hackerspaces in and around Germany which belong to or share a common bond to the CCC as stated in our hacker ethics.

Federal Constitutional Court Stops Electronic Voting Roulette
The Federal Constitutional Court decided today that the use of voting computers is unconstitutional. Rather, elections in Germany must be understandable by everyone without any special knowledge. The court declared the constitutional principle of a public voting process a fundamental requirement for democratic elections. This was the core issue on which the CCC campaigned against voting computers. Conversely, the court determined that speedy election results are not a requirement for democratic elections. The NEDAP voting computers, as used in Germany so far, will be consigned to the scrap heap of history. more …

Chaos Computer Club urges politicians to respect freedom in the internet
The Telecom Package is an extensive collection of new rulings devised by the European Parliament with the intention to protect consumers' rights in the telecommunications sector. In addition to many welcome innovations to the benefit of consumers, the package also includes new rulings enabling authorities to persecute users of file-sharing platforms and establish Internet filtering measures. In anticipation of these powers German politicians are planning the establishment of an extensive infrastructure for Internet censorship. more …

Der Chaos Computer Club (CCC) hat mit Hilfe freiwilliger Wahlbeobachter am 28. September 2008 in zehn brandenburgischen Kommunen eine weitere Wahlbeobachtung durchgeführt. Blinkenlights Stereoscope
After a long break the Blinkenlights Project is coming back to life. Its new screen is the Toronto City Hall with its 960 windows on two curved towers, forming 960 pixels with 16 brightness levels. The installation is named "Blinkenlights Stereoscope" in honor of its double screen. Everyone is invited to interact with it as it illuminates the City Hall from October 4th to October 12th, 2008. Moreover, you are invited to produce and publish your own animations. This time a special iPhone application for Blinkenlights Stereoscope has been published. more …
